Key Idea: God&rsquo;s thumbprints on you are clues about his plans for you.<br />

</strong><em>There is a direct correlation between knowing/using your gifts and finding God&rsquo;s plans for your life. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.</em> 1 Timothy 4:14,15<br />

<strong>Q: &ldquo;So, how do you actually do this?&rdquo;<br />
<br />
Know your gifts <br />
Spiritual gift:</strong> A specific definition or general category.<br />
<strong>Heart: </strong>Who or what do you care deeply about? <br />
<strong>Abilities:</strong> What comes easy for you?<br />
<strong>Personality:</strong> Are you a people person or prefer tasks?<br />
<strong>Experience:</strong> What have you done well, been successful at?<br />
<br />
<strong>Leverage opportunities to use your gifts. <br />
</strong><br />
<em>Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. </em>1 Timothy 4:16 <br />

CALLING AN D AUDIBLE<br />
</strong><br />
<strong>God&rsquo;s providential will describe the things that God WILL bring about<br />
</strong><br />
<strong>Example:</strong> <em>&ldquo;I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.&rdquo; </em>Matthew 16:18<br />
<br />
<strong>God&rsquo;s moral will are the general moral and ethical boundaries given in Scripture.<br />
</strong><br />
<strong>Example:</strong> <em>&ldquo;It is God&rsquo;s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality.&rdquo;&nbsp; </em>1 Thessalonians 4:3<br />
<br />
<strong>Personal will of God is that which pertains to you personally.<br />
</strong><br />
<strong>Example:</strong> <em>From one man he made every nation of men that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him.&nbsp;</em> Acts 17:26,27 <br />
<br />
<em>They will say, &ldquo;Where is this &lsquo;coming&rsquo; he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.&rdquo; But they deliberately forget that long ago by God&rsquo;s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. </em>2 Peter 3:4-9<br />

BOLD OBEDIENCE<br />
</strong><br />
<em>They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. &ldquo;Go, stand in the temple courts,&rdquo; he said, &ldquo;and tell the people the full message of this new life.&rdquo; At daybreak they entered the temple courts, as they had been told, and began to teach the people.</em> Acts 5:18-21<br />
<br />
1) USUALLY TRIGGERS <strong>OPPOSITION</strong>.<br />
<br />
<em>They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail.</em> Acts 5:18<br />
<br />
<br />
2) OFTEN RELEASES GOD&rsquo;S <strong>MIRACLES</strong>.<br />
<br />
<em>But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out.</em> Acts 5:19<br />

3) ALWAYS REQUIRES <strong>FAITH</strong>.<br />
<br />

<strong>PARTIAL</strong> OBEDIENCE IS DISOBEDIENCE.<br />

<em>&quot;We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name,&quot; he said. &quot;Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood.&quot; Peter and the other apostles replied: &quot;We must obey God rather than men! </em>Acts 5:28-29<br />

<strong>What is God&rsquo;s will? <br />

Permissive:</strong> (pertaining to morality)<br />

<em>&ldquo;Live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth&rdquo; </em>2 Timothy 2-4<br />

<strong>A PICTURE OF THE LIFE OF INTEGRITY: <br />

He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the Lord, who keeps his oath even when it hurts, who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Jesus really is the son of God!<br />
<br />
1. Because Jesus said so <u>himsel</u>f.<br />

<em>What about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, &lsquo;I am God&rsquo;s Son&rsquo;?</em> John 10:36<br />
<br />
<em>When he heard this, Jesus said, &ldquo;This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God&rsquo;s glory so that God&rsquo;s Son may be glorified through it.</em> John 11:4<br />
<br />
<em>The Jewish leaders insisted, &ldquo;We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.&rdquo; </em>John 19:7<br />

Why doesn&rsquo;t god stop pain and tragedies?<br />

</strong><em>The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, &quot;You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.&quot;</em> Genesis 2:15-17<br />
<br />
<em>&quot;You will not surely die,&quot; the serpent said to the woman.</em> Genesis 3:4<br />
<br />
<strong>The consequences of the original rebellion and subsequent rebellions are profound. <br />

<strong>God&rsquo;s solution is pure mercy.<br />
</strong><em>At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. </em>Titus 3:3-5<br />

<strong>God&rsquo;s mercy was complete when Jesus died on the cross.<br />

</strong>Based on Matthew 14: <br />
<em>Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. &quot;It&rsquo;s a ghost,&quot; they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: &quot;Take courage! It is I. Don&rsquo;t be afraid.&quot; &quot;Lord, if it&rsquo;s you,&quot; Peter replied, &quot;tell me to come to you on the water.&quot; &quot;Come,&quot; he said. <br />
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. <em>To change, to start again, to see myself as a new person, to live like I&rsquo;m forgiven, to truly forgive others, to be holy, to trust god with my life, to overcome fear&hellip; to be healed, whole, OK, provided for, lead&hellip; Jesus said, All things are possible for him who believes</em>. You were Shaped for Service?<br />
<br />
Service is a <u>distinct</u> ethic of the Christian faith. <br />
</strong><em>For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.&quot;</em> Mark 10:45 <br />
<br />
<strong>Showing Christ&rsquo;s <u>love</u> make&rsquo;s service &quot;Christian.&quot; <br />
</strong><em>&quot;It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love. so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. </em>John 13:2-5 <br />
<br />
<strong>Jesus <u>modeled</u> humble service. <br />
</strong><em>When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. &quot;Do you understand what I have done for you?&quot; he asked them. &quot;You call me `Teacher' and `Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.&quot;</em> John 13:12-15 <br />
<br />
<strong>God <u>compensates</u> humble servanthood. <br />
</strong><em>&quot;Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.</em> Philippians 2:3 <br />
